BHS golfers split NWC tri

The Bluffton High School golf team split a Northwest Connference tri-match at Pike Run Golf Course on Monday, August 22.

The Pirates lost their first-place league showdown to Leipsic 173-181, but finished ahead of Crestview 173-207.

Vikings Brevin Brandt and Nick Schroeder shared match medalist honors with a round of 40. First-place Leipsic improved to 7-0 in the NWC with the wins.

Bluffton is 5-2 in league play. Crestview fell to 0-5 in the NWC with the losses.

Bluffton VB sweeps Falcons

The Bluffton High School girls volleyball team won a straight-sets match at Riverdale in non-league action Monday evening, August 22.

The Pirate spikers rolled over the Falcon girls 25-10, 25-9, 25-18.

Kendall Stackhouse led Bluffton with 10 kills. Ayla Grandey knocked down eight kills, and Morgan Fruchey added seven kills.

Olivia Hobensack dished out 10 assists while Gracie Yarnell passed up nine assists.

Yarnell and Avery Talavinia each served two aces. Talavinia also mustered up 12 digs.

BHS boys lose soccer opener

The Bluffton High School boys soccer team lost its season opener 3-1 at Berlin Hiland Saturday afternoon, August 20.

Nolan Hoffman netted the lone Pirate goal. Bluffton got off 10 shots, while Hiland mustered 11 shots.

Kyle Basil was credited with five saves in goal for Bluffton. The Hiland keeper made three stops.

The Pirates (0-1) face Botkins in the semifinals of the Elida kick-off tournament Thursday, August 25 at 5 p.m. The third-place and finals match will be Aug. 27 at Elida.

Lady Pirate spikers nip Kalida in volleyball opener

Bluffton outlasted visiting Kalida in a five-set volleyball battle late Saturday morning, August 20, to capture its season opener.

The Lady Pirates triumphed over the Wildcat girls by a score of 25-15, 22-25, 25-18, 22-25, 15-10.

The Pirate junior varsity also won in straight sets, 2-0.

Bluffton (1-0) plays at Riverdale Monday, August 22. The Pirate girls then visit Pandora-Gilboa Wednesday, Aug. 24

Pirates dominate Hornets in football opener

The visiting Bluffton High School football team raced to a 54-point halftime lead and cruised to a 67-7 win over local rival Cory-Rawson at Spike Berry Field Friday night to open the 2022 season.

The non-league victory upped the Bluffton record to 1-0, while C-R starts out 0-1. 

Junior quarterback Garret Bogart threw for three touchdowns and 169 yards to pace the offense in the blowout win.

Pirate backs Landon Shutler and Landon Worcester each ran for two touchdowns.
