SPENCERVILLE __The visiting Bluffton High School girls soccer team blanked Spencerville 5-0 in the Northwest Conference opener on August 27.

Bluffton scored two goals in less than a minute early on and never was threatened.

The two-time defending league champion Pirate girls improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the NWC with the lopsided road win.

Spencerville fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the NWC after the defeat.

Blair Utendorf started the scoring with a goal in the seventh minute off a Mya McDougle assist.

BLUFFTON __ The Bluffton volleyball team swept a non-league triangular match Saturday, August 24, over two visiting opponents.

The Pirates swept Riverdale 25-18, 25-8 and defeated Miller City 25-21, 25-15. 

The wins improved the Pirate record to 4-1 this season.

Karlie Lora led Bluffton with six kills to pace the win over the Falcons.

Ayla Grandey, Kendall Stackhouse and Libby Hocanson each drilled five kills. Grandey also fired five aces, and Lora made one block.

BELLEFONTAINE __ The visiting Bluffton football team kicked off its season with a 50-3 shellacking of non-league foe Ben Logan on August 23.

The Bluffton boys soccer team lost 4-0 to Botkins on Thursday, September 22.

The Pirates fall to 0-2 after a 5-0 road loss to Shawnee last week in their opener.

John Raterman scored three goals for the Trojans to pace the winning offense. Trent Paul netted the other Botkins goal, and he also dished out one assist. Memphis Meyer dealt one Trojan helper.

The Pirate home opener is Thursday, August 29 vs. league foe Spencerville (0-1) at 7 p.m. Bluffton plays Ada in a JV match at 5 p.m. earlier that evening.

The Bluffton University men's golf team will have a different look when it hits the course in 2024-25. Gone are all-time greats Evan Kujawa (Toledo/Whitmer) and Hunter Jolliff (Elida) who have played an integral part in pushing Bluffton into the upper echelon of the Heartland Conference. The 299 for 18 holes and 609 for 36 holes at the 2023 Beaver Fall Invitational were 2nd all-time, while the 923 at the HCAC Championships shattered the 54-hole mark by 20 strokes!
