Cory-Rawson stops Pirates

Pirate freshman Garret Bogart collected 3 hits and 2 runs batted in. Braeden Jordan scored two runs and had 2 hits.

BLUFFTON - Bluffton's scheduled non-conference softball game vs. Cory-Rawson was postponed Tuesday evening. 

Low Hornet roster numbers due to injury and illness caused the cancellation, and the game will not be made up.

Bluffton (3-10, 2-4 Northwest Conference) resumes league play Thursday at Columbus Grove (8-7, 1-3 NWC). Grove crushed Continental 17-1 Tuesday evening.

The Pirate girls then host future NWC member Leipsic (7-5) Friday, April 30 and visit Arlington (3-9) for a non-league doubleheader Saturday, May 1.

Bluffton netters nipped by Ada

Pirates entertain Ottawa-Glandorf Wednesday, Wapak Thursday, Upper Sandusky Friday

ADA - The Bluffton tennis team won both doubles matches but lost overall 3-2 at Northwest Conference rival Ada on a warm Monday evening at the resurfaced purple and gold park courts.

The Bulldog netters evened their record at 6-6 with the victory, while the Pirates fell to 2-6 with the defeat. It was Ada's fourth win in five matches over the past eight days.

The Bulldogs and Bluffton are the only two NWC schools that field boys tennis teams.

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton run-ruled visiting Spencerville 10-0 in a Northwest Conference softball mismatch Monday evening.

The Lady Pirates improved to 3-10 and 2-4 in the NWC after the shutout win. The Bearcat girls fell to 1-13 overall and 0-3 in the NWC with the defeat. 

Bluffton scored two runs in the first inning and one in the second to build an early 3-0 lead. The Pirate girls put the game out of reach with four runs in the third frame, and then tacked on three more in the fourth.

DEFIANCE - The Bluffton track and field teams competed at the 18-school Diller Invitational hosted by Defiance Ayersville Saturday.

The Pirate boys came in eighth out of 15 squads. Columbus Grove captured the boys title with 140.33 points to beat Minster by 12 points. Bluffton tallied 33 points.

OHSAA to expand football playoffs and adjust regional format

Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors approved the 2021 football tournament regulations Thursday during its April Board meeting that included proposals from the OHSAA staff to increase the number of playoff qualifiers and change the format of the regional playoffs.

BLUFFTON - The host Bluffton boys tennis team dropped a 3-2 battle to Kenton Monday evening. 

Bluffton fell to 2-4 with the defeat, while Kenton improved to 4-6 with the narrow win.

Pirate sophomore Luke Shadle won 7-5, 6-3 at second singles over Wildcat senior Rylee Messinger.

Bluffton senior Grant Klingler triumphed 7-5, 6-4 at third singles over Kenton junior Noah Ketcham to provide the other Pirate victory.
