Bluffton spikers eliminated by Panthers

Junior hitter Kylie Stackhouse led the Pirates with 15 kills, 8 digs, 1 block

OTTAWA - The Bluffton girls volleyball team lost a four-set match to Parkway Wednesday night in Div. III sectional final play at Ottawa to end their season.

Bluffton finished up with a 14-9 record after the 25-21, 9-25, 25-14, 26-24 defeat. 

Parkway improved to 13-10 with the victory, and advanced to the district semifinals.
 
Junior hitter Kylie Stackhouse led the Pirates with 15 kills, eight digs and one block. Well-rounded Taylor Schwab amassed 13 kills and two blocks.

DELPHOS - Two Bluffton High soccer players and two coaches received top Northwest Conference honors in voting by coaches this week. Below are soccer and volleyball all-conference stories.

• Reagan Mittendorf was named girls’ NWC player of the year
• Jonathan Schriner was named boys’ NWC player of the year
• Jared Byers was named girls’ NWC soccer coach of the year
• Steve Smucker was named boys’ NBWC soccer coach of the year

BLUFFTON - The host Bluffton girls volleyball team rallied to win a tough four-set match over Van Buren Monday night in first round Div. III sectional action.

Bluffton improved its record to 14-8 overall with the hard-fought 26-28, 25-23, 25-22, 25-17 comeback victory. Due to a scheduling quirk, it was their second four-set win over the Black Knight girls in five days.

COLUMBUS GROVE - The Bluffton cross country team finished fourth in the annual Northwest Conference championship meet Saturday at Columbus Grove behind a top three showing.

Host CG won the boys team title with 29 points to easily out-distance second-place Lincolnview (58). Crestview nosed out Bluffton for third-place, 91-93.

Bluffton sophomore Erik Nygaard finished a strong third in a time of 16:49 to lead the 11 Pirate boys in the 85-runner field.

Stingy defense stops Bluffton in playoffs

4-3 Pirates have a bye week; travel to Cory-Rawson Oct. 30

SHERWOOD - Visiting Bluffton lost decisively to unbeaten third seed Sherwood Fairview 67-6 in the second round of the Div. VI, region 22 playoffs Saturday night.

The defeat snapped a four-game Pirate win streak, while Fairview improved to 7-0 with the win. Bluffton fell to 4-3 with the loss.

Fairview began the scoring with a safety 3:04 into the game and never was threatened.

Running back Luke Timbrook scored touchdowns on consecutive one-yard plunges in the first period.
