Erik Nygaard 12th in a field of 113 boys at cross country meet

Elijah Conley 39th 19:01.9; Sam Derstine 49th in 19:14.4

VAN WERT - The Bluffton cross country squads competed at the 16-team Van Wert Health Hospital Invitational hosted by Lincolnview Saturday.

Sophomore Erik Nygaard finished 12th in the field of 113 boys runners to pace the Pirates. He crossed the finish line in a time of 17:38.3.

Senior Elijah Conley ended up in 39th place in 19:01.9. Sophomore Sam Derstine came in 49th in 19:14.4.

Senior Brandon Good finished in 51st place with a time of 19:15.2. Sophomore Jonah Rehm was 70th in 20:03.9 as the fifth Pirate scorer.

Pirates come from behind to stop Delphos 62-56

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton rallied late to outscore and outlast Delphos Jefferson 62-56 in a Northwest Conference thriller on Homecoming Friday night at Harmon Field.

The teams combined for over 1,100 yards in total offense and 118 points in the shootout.

Pirate quarterback Nate Schaadt accounted for 415 yards of total offense and five touchdowns. Jefferson's Colin Bailey rushed for over 300 yards and ran/threw for seven scores in the back and forth battle.

Kenny Lovett finishes second in NWC golf voting

Allen East wins conference match

ADA - The eight-team Northwest Conference golf championship tournament was held Thursday at Colonial Hills.

Tourney host and league regular season champion Allen East won the event with 323 strokes, with Paulding a distant second at 349.

Lincolnview was third (351), followed by Bluffton (361), Columbus Grove (373) and Delphos Jefferson (383).     

Ada tied for seventh with Crestview at 448 strokes, but won the fifth man playoff tiebreaker to finish one spot ahead of the Knights.

Bluffton shuts out Ottawa Hills at home 2-0

Meeting between Division III 2nd and 5th state ranked teams

 BLUFFTON - The host Bluffton boys soccer team blanked Ottawa Hills 2-0 in a much-awaited showdown between the two top-ranked Div. III teams in the northwest region Thursday night at Steinmetz Field. 

Prior to the contest, Bluffton was ranked number 2 in Division III in the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association poll. Ottawa Hills was ranked 5th.

The unbeaten Pirates improved to 9-0-1 overall with the big victory. The Green Bears fell to 4-3-1 after the defeat.

BLUFFTON - The host Bluffton volleyball team lost in straight sets to Paulding in a Northwest Conference match Thursday night. 

Bluffton fell to 9-4 overall and 2-2 in the NWC with the 25-15, 25-9, 25-18 defeat.         

Paulding improved to 9-2 overall and 2-1 in NWC play with the sweep win.     

Kylie Stackhouse led the Pirate girls with 10 kills and one block. Taylor Schwab contributed six kills and 13 digs. 

Haelynn Bischoff added three kills.

Heartland Kids Corner now on the Icon

Welcome to the Icon's newest video feature. It's called Heartland Kids Corner. 

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) has launched a new series, Heartland Kids Corner, featuring student athletes interviewed by the children of their coaches. 

Bluffton University is a Heartland member.

In the inaugural episode Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology cross country head coach Geoff Wayton’s son Kurt puts the Fightin’ Engineer runners in the hot seat. Student athletes interviewed included Ben Gothard, Tim Wilson, Haley Braker, Madison Lindfelt and Taryn Perry.
