Adversity was the word of the day for the Bluffton Pirates on Friday. Despite being down 14-0 in the first, and playing on a day that featured highs of 92 degrees, the Pirates found a way to tie the score before halftime and break another tie late in the game to earn their second victory of the season.

Bluffton's senior quarterback Hunter Joseph started the day with an interception and a lost fumble, but rebounded nicely by completing 9 of 13 passes for 207 yards and 4 touchdowns as well as rushing for 34 yards.

The Bluffton High School girls' tennis team has already equaled its 2010 victory total as the Lady Pirates dropped Wapakoneta 5-0 Wednesday on the Redskins' courts.

Coach Jesse Sensenig's team is now 6-1 for the fall, having won its last six decisions after an opening loss to Shawnee. BHS was 6-9 in dual competition last year.

Emily Sprague won a three-setter to up her season mark at No. 2 singles to 8-1, while Ashlin Gable improved to 7-3 at No. 1 and Kristi Geiser moved to 7-2 at No. 3 singles, both winning in straight sets.

Coach Jesse Sensenig's Bluffton High School girls' tennis team edged Bath 3-2 Tuesday afternoon at Harmon Field courts to up its season record to 5-1.

Emily Sprague and Kristi Geiser took straight set decisions at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively. Sprague upped her season mark to 7-1, while Geiser is 6-2.

Ashlin Gable, playing one of the area's top individuals, lost 7-5, 6-1 to Emily Ruhe. She is 6-3 against the opponent's top singles players this fall.

Bluffton runners toed the starting line Saturday and prepared to race for the second time this year. The meet, called the Blue Jay Invitational, was in Delphos.

BHS team with trophy at Spencerville

The Bluffton Cross Country team has been training all summer and the time has finally come to bring it all together.

Although their season officially kicked off at the Upper Sandusky Icebreaker Invitational on Tuesday, it wasn't the first time the Pirates competed this year.

Ottawa-Glandorf defeated Bluffton 8-0 in a girls' soccer match on Aug. 25 at Ottawa. Bluffton JV's whipped the Titans 7-0.
