Bluffton University will hold its annual C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest at 7:00 p.m. on April 10 in Yoder Recital Hall.

Masterworks concert to feature Duruflé’s Requiem

Bluffton University’s Masterworks performance of French composer Maurice Duruflé’s “Requiem” will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 14 in Yoder Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public with first-come, first-served seating.

Letter: What makes a thing into a souvenir?

Clearly objects can hold memories for people. When we experience a momentous occasion, small souvenirs can bring back the memories of that time and place. The April 8 total eclipse will be a once-in-a-lifetime memory, and it is interesting to see what we will choose as our souvenirs.

The 1843 Schumacher homestead, 8350 Bixel Rd, will be open on April 6 and 7 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Enjoy self-guided tours of the house, garden, workshop and barn. Activities include games, toys, candle making and cornhusk dolls. Open fire popcorn and lemonade will be served.

Whoop-de-do: Updated Vaccine Information

As I was grocery shopping this week, an announcement came overhead about the new updated guidelines for the COVID-19 vaccines. After the announcement, a lady in the same aisle rolled her eyes and said, with obvious disdain, “Whoop-de-do.” 

I refrained from going into a pharmacist educational mode in the dairy aisle, but I wondered if she really understood what she was whoop-de-doing about.
