Library cooks up fun (and funds) in Saturday's chili cook-off

Bluffton Public Library's first Library Lovers "Cook for Books" Chili Cook-Off will take place on Saturday, Feb. 26, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jim Boedicker of Ada will provide live entertainment from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Three local "celebrities" - Matt Jordan, Fred Steiner and Phil Zimmerly - will judge samples to determine which cook will receive bragging rights for having the best chili. Guests will also vote for their favorite chili to determine the winner of the people's choice award.

Bluffton secures berth in HCAC tourney with win at Earlham (men's bball)

The Bluffton University men's basketball team traveled to Earlham College on Saturday, February 19, to take on the Quakers in the final game of the regular season. Bluffton took a 42-24 lead at the break and finished with a 75-54 victory over the home team. Bluffton ended the regular season 15-10 overall, including an 8-10 mark in the HCAC. Earlham finished with the same 2-23 record that the Beavers did a season ago. The Quakers went 0-18 during their inaugural campaign in the Heartland Conference.

The Bluffton University women's basketball team traveled to Earlham College on Saturday, February 19, to take on the Quakers in Heartland Conference action. Bluffton took a 36-24 lead at the break and held on to win, 75-58, over the Quakers. Bluffton ended the season with a 10-15 record overall, including a 7-11 mark in the HCAC. Earlham finished a disappointing 0-25 overall and 0-18 in their first season as a member of the Heartland Conference.

Friends of the Library invite you to become a member

Looking to make new Friends and urge others to renew their pledge, the Friends of the Bluffton Public Library are pounding the pavement during their annual membership drive.

To get the word out, the Friends will be posting flyers throughout the village and have stocked the library with brochures showing how they have helped the library in 2010.

Highlights of the year include raising $2,800 in fundraisers and donations, and pledging $1,350 to support young adult and children's services in 2011.

RSVP by Monday if you plan to attend Rotary breakfast with Congressman Jim Jordan

Monday, Feb. 21, is the deadline to make a reservation to hear Congressman Jim Jordan of the 4th district speak in Bluffton.

Jordan will address the Bluffton/Pandora Rotary Club on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 a.m. at Bluffton's town hall (3rd floor).

The public is invited to attend and breakfast will be provided without charge. Reservations are required.
