The Icon couldn't help but notice three out-of-state cars parked in a row on Main Street last week. This one from Nebraska, next to it one from New York, and the third from Ontario. Must have been an international meeting of some kind.

I graduated BHS in 2007 and I attended Bluffton schools since kindergarten.

Local authors hold book-signing event at Maple Crest

Four Maple Crest published authors were honored in late July in the Family Room at Maple Crest, with a reception and book-signing event.

They are Ruth Ayers, Carol Diller, Carl Wolf and Claralice Wolf. In 2001, Ruth Ayers and Carol Diller, along with Elnor Rodehefer, Amelia Basinger, and Dorothy Williams, authored the cookbook " Memories of Mother's Cooking (Cooking in the Swiss Community 1915-1935)."

Apollo student-parent orientations Aug. 23

In preparation for the 2010-11 Apollo Career Center school year, parents and students are encouraged to attend Apollo parent-student orientation, Monday, Aug. 23. To view the Apollo school calendar click here or open The Icon "forms" page.

Orientation times are 1-4 p.m. or 5:30-8 p.m. Parents and students may visit labs, meet with teachers, pay for fees, books and tools, and tour the building.

BHS band unveils its new look for 2010 Friday at 6 p.m.

It's an all-new band season coming your way soon at Harmon Field most Friday nights this fall.

The Bluffton High School band is in summer band camp rehearsals this week. According to Dave Sycks, band director, the band will perform an informal marching band show for parents and the public on the Harmon Field practice field at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20.

"We will be performing our first show, hopefully some of our second show and pre-game, said Sycks.

At 6:30 p.m. the band will depart for the Allen County Fair band show.
