Here's a poor quality, but important photo of Bluffton in the late 1940s or early 1950s. The scene is from Cherry Street looking south toward Railroad Street.

The Bluffton depot, which is now located at the Buckeye park, was alive with activity, servicing as a stop on the Nickel Plate Railroad. The depot served passengers and freight stops. The freight train heading north toward Bellevue is pulled by Lima-built Berkshire 703.

Village snow ordinance now in effect

In anticipation of another potentially significant snow event early this week, the Village of Bluffton is informing the public that its snow ordinance is now in effect (as of Sunday, Feb. 7), according to Rick Skilliter, police chief.

All vehicles parked on the public roadways must be parked on the side of the street that corresponds with the calendar day of the week (i.e. parked on the odd side of the street on odd calendar days and even side of the street on even calendar days).

Do you know the story about the BHS grad with 4 Super Bowl rings?

By Fred Steiner

Think you know every Super Bowl football fact worth chewing on? Think again.

Bet you didn't know a Bluffton High School grad, now deceased, owned four Super Bowl rings. Think hard. Hint: He's Mary Amstutz's brother...or if you still need help...he's Steve Amstutz's (a.k.a. Mr. A) uncle.

Neil Schmidt, a 1947 Bluffton High School graduate, who you could say was the greatest Bluffton athlete of his era, owned four Super Bowl rings. I know. I saw 'em.
