February 28 ACT testing for juniors, online learning for 9-10-12 grades

On Feb. 28 Bluffton High School will be giving the ACT college admissions exam to all Juniors. Therefore, students in 9th,10th, and 12th grades will have an online learning day and will not be at school.

With President Biden’s State of the Union Address quickly approaching, ONU students analyze the history of these addresses and discuss what Americans can expect from Biden on February 7.

Funeral arrangements for Corrinne Catherine Boehr

UPDATED with additional family members.

Corrinne Catherine Boehr, 91, passed away February 4, 2023, at Willow Ridge - Betty House of Mennonite Home Communities of Bluffton.

Corrinne was born March 23, 1931 in Long Beach, CA, to Orville and Margaret (Hartman) Kamp, who preceded her in death. Her parents and she moved back to Washington, IL where she was raised and lived until her marriage on October 28, 1951 to Richard J. Boehr. They lived in and raised four sons in Bluffton, Ohio. 

Corrinne was a graduate of Washington Community High School, Washington, Illinois and attended Bluffton University for one year. She became a homemaker and over time, worked for Dr. Earl Lehman, head of the music department of Bluffton College at the time. In the early '80s she became an office assistant for a local dentist. In 1987 she took a job as office assistant for Dr. Mark Steinmetz, MD in Bluffton and she retired in 1997.

Budget review is agenda for Committee of the Whole

A Council Committee of the Whole meeting has been announced for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 6, with a budget review expected to be the focus of the evening.

The Bluffton Village Council meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the Community Room on the third floor of the Bluffton Town Hall, 154 N. Main Street.

Items for regular meeting agendas should be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday preceding the Council Meeting.

BHS girls basketball makes late run past Miller City

The visiting Bluffton High School girls basketball team closed the game on a 12-3 run to defeat Miller City 48-40 in a non-conference battle Saturday afternoon, February 4.

Bluffton improved to 13-8 with their fourth win in 10 road games. The Wildcat girls dropped to 10-10 following the defeat.

Pirate senior point guard Sami Scoles led all players with 22 points, and she also grabbed five rebounds. The clutch Scoles scored eight of the 12 Bluffton points in the decisive finishing spurt.

The Book of Acts to be discussed during annual Bible lecture at Bluffton

Dr. J. Alexander Sider, professor of religion at Bluffton University, will present the colloquium, "Purity, Proclamation and Peace in the Book of Acts," at 4 p.m. on Feb. 17, 2023, in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall.

During the presentation, he’ll bring two arguments about the Book of Acts, one from British New Testament scholar C.H. Dodd and the other from Canadian Mennonite New Testament scholar Matthew Theisen, into conversation with each other. Sider will contrast the arguments and discuss how each contributes to our understanding of a central theme of Acts.
