Sweet tooth: Sugar substitutes and your heart

The idiom “sweet tooth” describes an individual who craves chocolate, candies, cake, cookies or sweet desserts. Healthcare professionals including dentists warn of the dangers of too much sugar. These include heart disease, obesity, diabetes and tooth decay. An option to reduce sugar intake is a sugar substitute.

Allen County Public Health survey closes June 30

The ACPH requests that local residents take part in its community survey, with the deadline for participation on Sunday, June 30.

Answers are confidential and will help identify opportunities to improve health in the community. Organizers note, "The ACPH greatly appreciates your willingness to participate and value your input immensely."

June 27 street sweeping: Please park off street

The Village of Bluffton has confirmed that street sweeping will take place on June 27 to clean village roads. Crews will start at 5:30 a.m. in the downtown district and this should be a 1-day project. Please refrain from parking on the street.

 

Susan Bunn promoted to VP Treasury Management at CNB

Citizens National Bank (CNB) has announced the promotion of Susan Bunn to Vice President Treasury Management.

Bluffton women in business gatherings begin Aug. 15

Women business owners and managers are invited to free monthly meetings where they can share experiences, network and mentor each other.

The first meeting is at 7:00 p.m. on August 15 at Bluffton Town Hall. Meetings will be the third Thursday of each month. 

Melinda Bowden, owner of PromoHits Ltd. in Bluffton, and Liz Gordon-Hancock, owner of the Boehr Block, are coordinating the gatherings. The opportunity was announced at the June meeting of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce.

The first "Swiss Day" I attended was in the later 1970s. I was a student at Bluffton College and working under Dr. Delbert Gratz at the Musselman Library on campus. After his invitation, I ventured into Marbeck Center on a Sunday afternoon to find something very special. It was the start of my love for this tradition.
