Tips for tree planting from AEP

Temperatures are warming up, which means landscaping projects are beginning. Before making any adjustments to outdoor areas, it’s important to practice proper planting, to keep loved ones safe while also helping our AEP Ohio crews keep the lights on. Here are some important tree planting tips from our Forestry team to keep in mind.

The May member meeting of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce (BACC) was held, as usual, at 7:00 a.m. on the second Friday of the month. Not an early bird? Here’s some of what you missed.

NEW MEMBERS
Executive director Jim Enneking introduced two new members:

Mike and Mary Burris of 1861 Wine Lounge, which is tantalizingly close to opening at 115 N. Main. The Burrises named a July 1 opening date as their target. They described the lounge as a modern speakeasy with dark walls and plenty of soft couches and chairs. The drinks menu will include beers, bourbon and Ohio and Michigan wines. Enneking has plans to make a chamber after hours event the community’s first opportunity to see the inside of the new business. For now, you can find 1961 Wine Lounge on Facebook.

Gideon Fisher of StandOut Creative Studio, who is celebrating the end of his first year in business full time, having previously freelanced on top of a full time job. Bluffton saloons, Bluffton stories

In a recent column, Fred Steiner named the proprietors of some of the many saloons operating on Bluffton's Main St. in the 1980s (Frank Clymer & Bill Sanner, Nick Nichols, Cooney Kraft, George Ritzler, Chris Wiess....) “Unusual Bluffton visitors, saloons and other stories,” is the topic of a program by Fred Steiner at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 24, at the Bluffton Public Library, 145 S. Main St., Bluffton.

“From the 1880s to the 1930s Bluffton was part of a circuit visited by interesting groups of itinerants,” said Steiner. “Most of these visitors were harmless and homeless persons traveling the countryside. They included drifters, peddlers, misfits and people from the Romani culture.”

Rape charges filed in Hancock County against Bluffton man

A Hancock County grand jury has charged a Bluffton man with raping a teenager in June of 2022.

Dillon E. Amos of 4150 Ohio 103, Bluffton, has been charged with rape, a first-degree felony, and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony, according to information from the Hancock County court of Common Pleas.

The charges were filed on May 16, 2023.
