Bluffton University homecoming football ends with a win and a brawl

The last :90 of the game clock were run without play after a Manchester University player made a late hit and kicked a Bluffton player, resulting in a bench-clearing fight. RedditCFB posted a clip HERE on Twitter.

The Bluffton University football team delighted the Homecoming crowd with a 50-12 dismantling of Manchester University on a cold and rainy Saturday, Oct. 21. Sparty stayed winless at 0-7 and 0-4 in the Heartland Conference, while Bluffton picked up its first HCAC win and improved to 2-5 on the season.

Early October 2023 fields reports from Ohio Division of Wildlife

Northwest Ohio – Wildlife District Two 
In August, State Wildlife Officer Michele Butler, assigned to Erie County, patrolled the shoreline of Sandusky Bay. She observed an angler on a pier throw a beverage can into the water after finishing it. Officer Butler contacted the fisherman and issued him a citation for littering. He pleaded no contest in Sandusky Municipal Court and paid $145 in fines and court costs.

October 24 girls soccer DIII semifinals at Steinmetz Field

At 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, the Blufft High School girls soccer team will play Allen East in the DIII District Semi-Finals at Steinmetz Field.

All spectators must purchase a ticket, either online ohsaa.org/tickets (students $5 and adults $8) or at the gate for $10 (cash).

Bluffton passes will NOT be accepted.

Tickets will be good for two games, the 5:00 pm game between Van Buren and Riverdale and the Bluffton Allen East game at 7:15 p.m. Please note, the facility will not be cleared following the first game.

Bluffton Council agenda for October 23

The Parks & Recreation Committee will also meet at 6:30 p.m.

The Village of Bluffton will hold a regular Council Meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023. The agenda includes an opportunity for public comment and reports from the Parks & Recreation Committee and the Tree Commission.

Carol Ann Fields worked for Cooper Tire

Carol Ann Fields, 85, passed away October 22, 2023 at her residence. Carol was born May 28, 1938 in Berne, Indiana to the late Francis and Ruth (Eicher) Moser. On August 16, 1957 she married Jack Fields who preceded her in death on December 23, 2020. 

Carol graduated from Bluffton High School. She retired from Cooper Tire in Findlay where she was a secretary. Carol was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Bluffton. She enjoyed working outside, going on walks, baking pies, gardening and restoring furniture. Carol and Jack loved going to dinner and their door was always open to their family and friends. She enjoyed cooking for others and when you came to visit, Carol insisted on making sure you ate. Carol and her husband spent over 25 years wintering in Ft. Myers, Florida where they made many friends and enjoyed entertaining them with fish fries. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Brilliant color in any weather

A recent visit to the Village of Bluffton Arboretum showed that October's fall colors are brilliant on cloudy and sunny days. Located at the corner of County Line Rd and Lake St., the arboretum has a multitude of leaf shapes, textures and colors.
