Unbeaten Pirate football shuts out Leipsic

The Bluffton High School football team blanked speedy Leipsic 34-0 (SCOREBOARD) in a surprisingly lopsided Northwest Conference showdown Friday night, October 6, at Harmon Field. The Pirates remain undefeated and atop the league.

The Pirate defense has now recorded six consecutive shutouts. The potent Vikings came into the fray averaging 30 points a game, but were unable to puncture the Pirate defense.

P-G Rocket football loss to Liberty-Benton

It was a battle for the top of the Blanchard Valley Conference football standings as the Pandora-Gilboa Rockets (4-0 BVC) hosted the Liberty-Benton Eagles (4-0 BVC) Friday night, October 6. In a thrilling back-and-forth game that that lived up to the billing, a late P-G turnover in Eagle territory halted the rally, as the Rockets lost 33-28.

Caitlyn Couch is September Student of the Month

The Bluffton High School student of the month for September 2023 is Caitlyn Couch, a senior with a 4.000 GPA. She is the daughter of Roy and Cathy Couch of Bluffton.  

Couch is involved in many activities at school including the marching band, pep band, concert band, jazz band, choir, "Four Guys and a Gal" quartet, Drama club, E-sports, Academic team and a member of the National Honor Society. She received an Academic Award in Spanish/9th grade, English/10th grade & Government/11th grade. This fall she was selected as one of the Senior Homecoming Attendants

She was a member of the Tennis team her Freshman, Sophomore and Junior years. She is employed at St. Mary's Catholic Church and Shirley's Popcorn.

The senior has taken CCP courses through Rhodes State University-Bluffton High School in College Algebra & Trigonometry.  

In her spare time Couch enjoys listening to music, playing the piano, reading, writing and watching movies. 

After graduation Caitlyn plans on attending Capital University and majoring in Music Technology.

Students discuss Bluffton University cross-cultural experiences

Students who participated in spring 2023 short-term cross-cultural experiences spoke during Bluffton University’s Oct. 3 Forum in Yoder Recital Hall.

Experiences included a Civil Rights tour of key southern sites; a tour of Holocaust sites in Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic; a medical service experience in Ecuador and a service experience in Kentucky/Appalachia with Mennonite Central Committee’s SWAP (Sharing with Appalachian People) program.

Beaverdam public meeting on October 19

The Village of Beaverdam Planning Commission will hold an Public Hearing Meeting on Thursday, October 19 at 6:00 p.m. in the Village Hall Council Room,

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss a proposed amendment to the Village of Beaverdam’s Zoning Ordinance.
