Budget review is agenda for Committee of the Whole

A Council Committee of the Whole meeting has been announced for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 6, with a budget review expected to be the focus of the evening.

The Bluffton Village Council meets at 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the Community Room on the third floor of the Bluffton Town Hall, 154 N. Main Street.

Items for regular meeting agendas should be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday preceding the Council Meeting.

BHS girls basketball makes late run past Miller City

The visiting Bluffton High School girls basketball team closed the game on a 12-3 run to defeat Miller City 48-40 in a non-conference battle Saturday afternoon, February 4.

Bluffton improved to 13-8 with their fourth win in 10 road games. The Wildcat girls dropped to 10-10 following the defeat.

Pirate senior point guard Sami Scoles led all players with 22 points, and she also grabbed five rebounds. The clutch Scoles scored eight of the 12 Bluffton points in the decisive finishing spurt.

The Book of Acts to be discussed during annual Bible lecture at Bluffton

Dr. J. Alexander Sider, professor of religion at Bluffton University, will present the colloquium, "Purity, Proclamation and Peace in the Book of Acts," at 4 p.m. on Feb. 17, 2023, in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall.

During the presentation, he’ll bring two arguments about the Book of Acts, one from British New Testament scholar C.H. Dodd and the other from Canadian Mennonite New Testament scholar Matthew Theisen, into conversation with each other. Sider will contrast the arguments and discuss how each contributes to our understanding of a central theme of Acts.

Chamber trivia night at Southgate Lanes on April 1

No fooling, the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commer has announced a Trivia Night fundraiser at Southgate Lanes on April 1.

- $300 entry per team (No more thant 6 on a team)

- 13 teams maximum

- Three hours of trivia

-Tasting of four boutique wines and a charcuterie board for the table

- All proceeds benefit the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce

Open enrollment and kindergarten screening for 2023-2024 school year

Open Enrollment 
The Bluffton Exempted Village School District is currently accepting applications from students interested in attending the school district through open enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year.

Students from any school district in Ohio may apply and enroll in Bluffton Schools tuition free.  Students are admitted on a full-time basis only.

Applications are approved annually on a first come, first served basis and approval is subject to grade level enrollment and educational programs.

Cadet program announced by Allen County Sheriff's Office

The Allen County Sheriff’s Office has announced a new pilot program which will allow the Sheriff’s Office to send future deputies to Rhodes State College Basic Police Officer Academy.

The ACSO Cadet program will provide the costs of tuition and equipment for up to five (5) cadets. Additionally, these cadets will receive full-time medical benefits and pay while enrolled in the academy. Upon successfully completing Rhodes State College Basic Police Officer Academy and obtaining OPOTA certification, these individuals will be hired as fulltime Allen County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
