Weekend Doctor: Ostomy care

An ostomy is a surgically created opening in the abdomen for the discharge of body waste. The United Ostomy Association of America (UOAA) notes the term “stoma” is used interchangeably, which refers to the actual end of the ureter, small or large bowel that can be seen protruding through the abdominal wall.

BHS boys 3-point barrage buries Bulldogs

The visiting Bluffton High School boys basketball team put on a three-point shooting display to build a big early lead and romp past local rival Ada 92-45 in a lopsided Northwest Conference game Friday night, December 16.

The red-hot Pirates fired in nine first half three-pointers as they led by 29 points at halftime and cruised to victory. For the game, Bluffton ended up draining a dozen demoralizing treys to bury the Bulldogs.

Lauren Beasley Named AVP Mortgage Loan Originator

Citizens National Bank has named Lauren Beasley as their newest Mortgage Loan Originator in their Bluffton office. In this role she will facilitate mortgage, home equity and other retail loan applications. She is eager to work with local realtors and potential home buyers to walk them through the process of purchasing a home through Citizens National Bank.

Blended Roots last day of business

The last day of business for Blended Roots, an arts and crafts consignment store at 246 Cherry St., is Saturday, December 24.

Shop manager Katelyn Gainok also told the Icon that she will proceed with plans for the spring arts and crafts show and has contacted the village and Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce about continuing this local tradition.

Erik Nygaard signs letter of intent with the University of Charleston

Bluffton High School Senior Erik Nygaard signed a letter of intent to run track and field, as well as cross country at the University of Charleston, West Virginia. Erik is the son of Jamie and Christian Nygaard.

Erik is a three-time state qualifier in Cross Country, and finished 4th this past season at the Division III State Cross Country meet. Erik was a member of the 2021 4x800 relay team that finished 8th at the State Track meet. Erik was also a member of the 2022 4x800 relay team that finished 3rd at the State Track Meet. Erik is also Bluffton’s school record holder in the 3200m run with a time of 9:48.23.

Residential lights prize winners announced

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the residents and businesses selected as best holiday lights and decorations competition winners for the 2022 holiday season.

The new “Chamber Choice” award for residences not entered in the competition resulted in a 3-way tie.

The committee of judges was coordinated by Derek Dukes of Southgate Lanes.
