Armstrong wins individual title at NWC CC title meet

Pirate boys place 3rd; Essinger is 2nd in girls race

Bluffton High School senior Landon Armstrong won the 59-runner male race to lead the Pirate boys cross country team to third at the six-team Northwest Conference title meet Saturday morning at Columbus Grove on October 15.

Most remarkable of all mounds in Ohio
The most remarkable of all mounds in the State was one in Hardin County, in which were found about three hundred skeletons. A doubt has, however, been expressed that these were all Mound Builders skeletons.

The Allen County Board of Elections has issued reminders that in-person absentee early voting for the November 8 general election has begun.

Early Voting Hours at 204 N. Main Street, Lima, Ohio have the following schedule:

Oct 12-28 Weekdays Only 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Oct 31-Nov 4 Weekdays Only, Monday-Friday Extended Hours, 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

Oct 29 Saturday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Nov 5 Saturday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Nov 6 Sunday, 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Nov 7 Monday, 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

You may remember a summer scene shared by the Icon featuring "Big Red." These days, the chestnut (name unknown) is harder to spot among the camoflage of fall colors.

Board of Education to meet Monday, October 17

The Board of Education for the Bluffton Exempted Village Schools will hold its regular meeting on Monday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. with the attached agenda. The board meets in the Elementary School media center.

Items on the agenda include:

  • Approval of minutes and reports
  • Involvement of visitors
  • Treasurer's transactions 
  • Contracts, assignments. Thirteen coaching contracts are on this month's agenda as well as eleven substitute teacher contracts and a substitute custodian.
  • Overnight trip. 8th grade Washington D.C., May 16-19
  • Administrative reports

Rockets overwhelm Falcons, 55-7

The Pandora-Gilboa High School football team took advantage of four first half turnovers, flying ahead 14-0 in the first quarter, as they overwhelmed the Riverdale Falcons by a final of 55-7 in Blanchard Valley Conference football action.

The win clinches a playoff spot for P-G, currently ranked 9th in the Division VII, Region 26 playoff computer rankings with one week remaining. The top 16 teams advance to the playoffs, with the top 8 seeds hosting a first-round playoff game.
