Nonprofits awarded funds from American Legion charitable golf outing

On August 29 the Bluffton American Legion Post 382 awarded funds to nine different non-profit organizations in Allen County, Bluffton and Findlay. The funds were raised at a June golf outing when over 26 teams played in support of local nonprofits.

In the eleven years the legion has hosted the golf outing, it has raised $69K.

  • Childcare reservations must be made 24 hours in advance by phone.

BFR notes, "Get your work out in while the kids play in a safe, structured environment."

Pirate boys finish 1-2 at Delphos XC meet

The Bluffton High School boys cross country team finished a solid fourth at the 13-team Blue Jay Invitational hosted by St. John's at the Delphos Stadium Park Saturday, August 27. The BHS girls finished eighth out of nine teams.

Bluffton seniors Erik Nygaard and Landon Armstrong crossed the finish line first and second, 1.3 seconds apart, in the field of 134 runners.

The third-place finisher was 16 seconds behind the pace of Nygaard. Bluffton senior Sam Derstine finished a strong 13th.

Charles A. Triplehorn obituary

Charles A. Triplehorn was born in Bluffton, Ohio on October 27,1927 to Murray and Alice Triplehorn and passed away on August 25, 2022 in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by his family. He grew up in Bluffton, graduating from Bluffton High School in 1945. He was active in band and orchestra (slide trombone), a member of Thespians, appearing in a number of stage productions. He was on the football team, HiY (service club), Science Club (president), reporter for the school newspaper, and on the production staff of the yearbook.

Memories of the first day of school and favorite teachers

The following reflections on being a student and a teacher come from columnist Bill Herr who taught high school for 32 years. He taught math at Bluffton High School from 1975-1995.

Yahoo! School is starting.

When I taught high school I really enjoyed the first day back. The students were excited to see their friends and they often wore new clothes. The teachers were excited. I always asked the students to write what they did that summer. And I asked them to write the names of their siblings in case I had them in school before. They needed to know that I cared about them beyond the classroom.
