Several Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio employees were recognized recently for number of years of service.

Oscar Velasquez shows his 2010 holiday painting in front of the public library, just at the spot where he depicts this year's scene. Velasquez unveiled his ninth Bluffton holiday painting at the Blaze of Lights. This year's scene is in honor of the library's 75th anniversary.

The original work is watercolor and acrylic. Art collectors have three print choices of the scene. Each print is signed.

Richard L. Bloom 1945-2010

Richard L. Bloom

Richard L. Bloom, 65, of Bluffton died Dec. 1, 2010, at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born Aug. 13, 1945, in Lima to Richard F. and Betty Ballinger Bloom. On April 27, 1963 he married Judith Minnig and she survives.

Mr. Bloom retired from Tower Automotive, Bluffton. He was a member of the Bluffton Presbyterian Church where he has served as a deacon. He was a graduate of Bath High School.

Lavina Creeger's 100th birthday celebration Dec. 5

Lavina Creeger will celebrate her 100th birthday with an open house on Sunday, Dec. 5. The party is from 3 to 5 p.m., at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 8375 Phillips Road, Bluffton.

Chamber gift certificate great Christmas present idea

Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce gift certificates are available for persons interested in promoting gift-giving in Bluffton.

The certificates are available in any amount. They may be obtained at no charge from Citizens National Bank, or by contacting [email protected].

Each certificate may be used in any Bluffton business, or may be redeemed for cash at Citizens National Bank. The certificates are good for 12 months after their purchase.

10 Bluffton athletes earn Academic All-Heartland Conference honors

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference recently announced the fall honorees of the HCAC All-Academic awards for the 2010-11 school year. Ten Bluffton University athletes were recognized for their efforts in the classroom. Women's soccer and football led the way for the Beavers with four and three honorees, respectively.
