Mennonite Home hosts consignment auction

New to the Fall Festival this year is a consignment auction held at Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St. Bluffton.

The auction will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25.

If you have things you would like to sell in an auction like, nicely used furniture, antiques, electronics, call Julie Stratton at 419-369-4715.

It will cost $2 to enter each item to sell. Persons may put the item in with a minimum bid so that the bidding is guaranteed to start at that price.

Oct. 6 "topping out" celebration at hospital construction site

Structural steel installation and framing of the two-story addition, which includes the new emergency department and other services, is approaching completion at the Bluffton Hospital.

Contractors will begin installation of second floor decking this week.

A "topping out" celebration is being planned in observance of the last piece of the structural steel being placed.

The ceremony will be Wednesday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. The community is invited to attend. More details will follow in the coming weeks.

Letter: Observations from abroad on "progressive," "conservative" and "liberal"

I wish to respond to Bob Amstutz's letter. I am, first of all, a progressive, a liberal - someone who thinks neither are dirty words and someone who really sees the slow conservative drift to the right in the United States as something very unfortunate.

Thursday next tea time at The Inn at ONU

The Inn at Ohio Northern University offers Thursday Tea at the Inn every Thursday afternoon from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Inn. The garden courtyard is open for seating (weather permitting).

The next event is Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Inn. Featured tea is Earl Grey Cr`eme Black with a pairing of profiteroles (cream puffs), along with a selection of Chef's Tea Sandwiches, Scones, Pastries, Tarts and Petite Fours. Champagne is also available.

Sept. 16 next community meal

Community meals at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center continue this fall. The next meal is at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Center. The First Mennonite Church, Bluffton, will provide the meal.

The menu consists of Vegetable Stew, cornbread and honey, and ice cream for dessert. The meal is open to the public. Donations accepted go to the Bluffton Community Assistance Program's food pantry.

The community meal program is sponsored by the Bluffton Area Ministerial Association.

Preserving treasured documents library program topic

Carrie Phillips will present "Preserving Treasured Documents: Tricks of the Trade" at Bluffton Public Library on Thursday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.

Phillips serves as archives and special collections librarian at Bluffton University and will discuss the preservation of treasured family documents, including strategies, materials and tools for proper storage and cleaning.
