The Food Store: Bluffton's answer to Whole Foods and other national chains

Ever wonder what really is in your food or where it comes from? Curious if what you're using to clean your house is healthy for your kids? The Food Store, 103 S. Main St., is the place to go for your answers: A small community store with great knowledge and local products to help your family stay healthy.

On June 15, 1981, Jon and Sally Weaver Sommer opened The Food Store in front of their home on Main Street next to the Bluffton Fire Station.

Letter: Concerned that we keep funding for public media in Ohio

Dear State Congress people,
I am very concerned that we keep essential funding for public media in Ohio. I know that I speak for friends all over the state. The more local representation we have in our media, the safer and more educated we are.

Sixth graders

Eli Bourassa is the son of Mark and Jackie Bourassa, Bluffton. Eli is a member of the BMS band and plays the saxophone. He attends St. John Mennonite Church, Pandora, and also participates on the BFR indoor soccer team.

Bluffton baseball hosting hitting camp in January

The Bluffton University baseball program will host a hitting camp for players in grades 5-8 on Sunday, Jan. 16, and another for players in grades 9-12 on Sunday, Jan. 23. Each session will run from 1-4 p.m.; cost is $35, which includes a camp shirt.

Campers will be instructed in the fundamentals of hitting and will get a number of swings through a variety of drills. Individualized instruction will be provided by Bluffton coaches and players, who set Bluffton season records in 2010 for hits (424), RBI (239), home runs (31) and total bases (618).

Bluffton University adding public health to academic offerings

Public health is joining the list of academic programs offered by Bluffton University to help meet society's increasing need for health care and social services professionals.

A major and minor in public health will be available to Bluffton undergraduates beginning next fall, and the university has hired Dr. Ross Kauffman, who holds both master of public health and doctoral degrees in epidemiology, to head the program.
