BHS band unveils its new look for 2010 Friday at 6 p.m.

It's an all-new band season coming your way soon at Harmon Field most Friday nights this fall.

The Bluffton High School band is in summer band camp rehearsals this week. According to Dave Sycks, band director, the band will perform an informal marching band show for parents and the public on the Harmon Field practice field at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20.

"We will be performing our first show, hopefully some of our second show and pre-game, said Sycks.

At 6:30 p.m. the band will depart for the Allen County Fair band show.

Ticket information for Bluffton High School athletic events of 2010-11 is now available.

Single game tickets: $3 for students, $5 for adults

Football passes ( 6 home games/reserved seats): $30

Fall sports pass (including volleyball, boys' and girls' soccer): $30

Fall sports pass (all home athletic events throughout the school year): $100

Senior citizen all-sports pass: $80

10-game student general admission pass: $25

10-game senior citizen general admission pass: $30

What's for breakfast? Here's the seniors' monthly schedule

Senior Citizens breakfasts for the 2010-11 school year are set, according to Greg Denecker, Bluffton schools superintendent. Each month's breakfast is free for area seniors.

Each breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m. and is held in the middle school cafetorium. During each breakfast a Bluffton school group performs for seasons. The monthly breakfasts are also listed in The Ion calendar.

The monthly schedule follows:

Sept. 8 - Marching band

Oct. 13 - Show choir

Nov. 10 - Drama club

Dec. 8 - Concert choir

Book discussion, film screening in September at the library

Bluffton Public Library will host a discussion of John Steinbeck's book The Grapes of Wrath at Common Grounds Coffeehouse & Caf'e on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m. Copies of the book are available at the library.

A classic film screening will also take place at the library on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 11:30 a.m. Participants may bring their own brown bag lunch to the screening. Both the book discussion and the film screening are being held in conjunction with the library's 75th anniversary.

Beat the back-to-school blues with the Bluffton Public Library

"Join us onThursday, Aug. 26, at 2 p.m. for one final summer fling with all things blue and anti-school," said Rikki Steingass, youth services coordinator.

"Since no one knows more about trouble at school than Percy Jackson, what better way is there to defy the administration than to kick back with blue nachos, sip some blue lemonade and watch the gods duke it out on the big screen?

Janet M. Wilson 1936-2010

Janet Wilson

Janet M. Wilson, 73, of rural Benton Ridge died at 3:15 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at her residence. She was born on Sept. 12,
1936, to Clair and Golda (Young) Schoonover in Benton Ridge. She married David Wilson on Nov. 29, 1968, and he survives.

Mrs. Wilson is also survived by a daughter, Shari L. Schoonover of Benton Ridge; brother, Robert E. (Mary Lou) Schoonover of Benton Ridge; brother-in-law, and Cliff Peterson of Benton Ridge. She was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Peterson.
