Senior Center peanut brittle by the numbers

The bags of peanut brittle displayed next to the cash register at the Bluffton Senior Center, 132 N. Main St., is a deceptively modest representation of the fundraising operation, which takes place in the weeks before Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Here’s another way of looking at it:

32 volunteers x 5 Monday mornings, 8:00-11:00 a.m.
= 600 lbs. of peanut brittle made and sold to benefit the center

Esports coordinator hired by Bluffton University

Bluffton University has named Brian Williams to the newly created position of Esports coordinator. He will be responsible for the overall direction of Esports at Bluffton including planning, coaching, recruiting and managing the co-ed Esports program, which will be Bluffton's 19th varsity sport starting in the 2023-24 academic year.

Teens for Christ investigation announcement

This announcement was issued by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office on November 8: 

As you are aware, we have been investigating complaints involving members and staff of a local Teens for Christ chapter for several months. As of the date of this email no state charges have been filed and it is unknown if any will be. As this investigation has proceeded, we have found that many complaints cross state lines and some of the alleged questionable conduct has occurred far outside of this agency’s jurisdiction.

Arrest and investigation following incident at Cairo grain elevator

The Allen County Sheriff's Office announced the following on November 8, 2022:

On October 29, 2022 at approximately 6:09 p.m. Allen County Deputies were dispatched to the Cairo Grain Elevator. A male, later identified as Derek D. Tussing (DOB 3-10-1991) of Delphos, had tried to pull a female out of her car.

American Legion activities on Veterans Day

This Friday is Veterans' Day, observed annually on November 11–on the anniversary of the end of World War I–as a holiday honoring men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces.

Bluffton American Legion  post 382 members Larry Core, Sam Reineke,Tom Benroth and Kurt Emans will provide a flag folding presentation at Bluffton Middle School for four classrooms of 4th graders, with a total of 101 students.

Post 382 and Commander Jerry Cupples will also have Veteran’s Day presentations at Maple Crest (1:30 p.m.) and Mennonite Memorial Home (2:15 p.m.) to honor resident veterans.

Preview of November 11 chamber meeting

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly breakfast meeting on Friday, November 11.

The organization will honor veterans with a presentation from Chad Cupples, who served as an Army Sergeant with the 323rd Military Police Company from 1997-2005. He served in Operation New Horizons 1999, Operation Noble Eagle 2001-02 and Operation Iraqi Freedom 2003-04. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Combat Action Badge for his service in Iraq.
