Invitation to March 15 Transportation Improvement Plan Open House

The Lima-Allen County Regional Planning Commission is hosting a Transportation Improvement Plan Open House on March 15 from 2:00- 6:00 p.m. at 130 W. North St. in Lima.

The Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) is a list of upcoming federally funded transportation projects completed every four years in cooperation with our member political subdivisions and ODOT.

Early BHS sports history presentation, March 13

“Before we were Pirates,” the story of Bluffton sports teams before 1929, is the topic of a presentation by Fred Steiner, Monday, March 13, at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, 132 N. Main St., Bluffton.

The presentation will follow a noon luncheon and should begin at 12:45 p.m. You do not need to attend the luncheon to attend the presentation, which is open to the public.

The Pirate did not become the school mascot until 1929. Prior to that the school had no mascot. Steiner's presentation shares details of the earliest teams in the history of the school. The origin of the mascot will also be explained.

Norman named HCAC Pitcher of the Week

Senior Erin Norman (Pleasant Hill/Newton) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Norman opened the season with a victory on Sunday, March 5, going all seven innings for the Beavers while tossing a four-hit shutout and allowing no walks in her senior debut as Bluffton downed Sage 2-0 in one hour and five minutes on Sunday afternoon. Norman finished with three strikeouts.

Soccer Field prep needs volunteers Saturday, March 11

As the Icon recently reported, some 300 children participate in Bluffton youth soccer. This weekend volunteers will be preparing fields for the spring season.

Easter for Kids at Trinity Lutheran School

Easter for Kids, a special one-day Easter VBS, will be held at Trinity Lutheran School, 105 Allen Street, Jenera, on Saturday, March 25, from 9:30 a.m.-12:00 noon.

Organizers explain, "Children ages 3 years to 5th grade will have a special opportunity to hear the good news of Easter and what Jesus' resurrection means for them through Bible lessons and Bible-based activity stations, songs, crafts, games and snacks."

BVHS creates new nurse residency program

Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) is launching a nurse residency program which will allow new nurses to transition from school to working at the bedside with mentorship and classes that will help them succeed and grow in confidence.

Classes will focus on the basics of nursing. Nurses will learn the systems of the body and will get to practice techniques during regular simulations. They’ll also learn how to strengthen their clinical reasoning such as learning how to manage medical complications and appropriate actions to take.
