Letter: Lifesaving work by Bluffton Safety Services

A letter in support of the proposed Municipal Income Tax for the Village of Bluffton for raising revenue for the capital needs and operations of the Safety Services Departments.

Mother’s Day 2023 was a beautiful day. We were just returning from spending time with my mother and I asked Dan to drop me off at Bluffton University’s football field.  My cousin’s son was playing soccer there (yes, on Mother’s Day!), and I was determined not to miss a game that was so close to our home.  After the game, my cousin’s husband offered to drop me off at home. I refused as it was a short walk and sunny. As I walked up our road, I could see our neighbor Dan Gray sitting outside. Their white home seemed to highlight his red shirt to me. ▶︎

Trevor Bassitt mural featured at Harmon Field

Olympic athlete and Bluffton native Trevor Bassitt is now featured in a mural on a Harmon Field building facing College Avenue. Last week Bassitt visited Bluffton and met artist Shaina Phillips, who depicts the 400m hurdler in action.

Happy accident: Yogurt every day helps keep diabetes away?

“Happy accident” is an idiom meaning something good happens unexpectedly when it otherwise could have been a problem. Around 5,000 BC when milk was exposed to warm temperatures and bacteria, yogurt was the happy accident.

Some 80 friends, family members, teammates and fans of Elbert Dubenion–who was a collegiate athlete at Bluffton College in the 1950s and a professional football player for nine seasons with the Buffalo Bills—attended an October 4 ceremony dedicating a portion of Bentley Rd. as Dubenion Drive.

Robert Taylor worked at Vetter Lumber

Robert "Bob" D. Taylor Sr., 63, passed away October 15, 2024 at Lima Memorial Health System.  Bob was born April 25, 1961 in Medina, Ohio to William and Joyce (Bassitt) Taylor who preceded him in death and was raised by his mother and William "Bill" McClain. He had been previously married to Pam Taylor.

Team faces Falcon foes in semis

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton High School girls soccer team defeated local rival Allen East 3-1 in first round Div. V sectional tournament play Tuesday night, October 15, at Steinmetz Field.  

The Pirate record improved to 11-5-1 after the victory. It was the second year in a row the Pirates eliminated AE from the tournament at Steinmetz.
