Sweetheart dinner dance at The Centre just the thing for Valentine's Day; tickets now on sale

Don't know what to do for Valentine's Day? The Centre at Bluffton has your answer. The Centre presents a sweetheart's dinner dance, from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12 at The Centre, according to Brenda Gaines of The Centre.

The event includes the Stan Sterner Big Band performing, plus hors d'oeuvres, a dinner, cash bar and dessert. Tickets purchased before Tuesday, Jan. 25, are two for $60 or a table of eight for $200, plus tax.

Village administrator Jamie Mehaffie receives certification from ICMA

Jamie Mehaffie, Bluffton village administrator, recently received the Credentialed Manager designation from International City/County Management Association (ICMA), a local government leadership and management organization.

Mehaffie is one of 1,200 local government management professionals currently credentialed through the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program.

Mennonite Mutual Aid Society hires Lynn Mohler as manager

Lynn Mohler of Elida joined Mennonite Mutual Aid Society-Swiss Mutual Insurance Agency, Bluffton, this winter as its manager, according to Lawrence Matthews, board chair.

"We are very happy to have Lynn join our company," said Matthews. "He holds extensive managerial, personal experience and leadership skills that will move our company forward."

Library to host chili cook-off in February

Bluffton Public Library is bracing for another challenging budget year and is planning a variety of "fun"draisers. The first main event of the year will be an amateur chili cook-off on Saturday, Feb. 26, from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the lower level meeting room at the library.

Ten chili enthusiasts who are willing to "cook for books" are invited to compete for prizes and bragging rights. Dust off your favorite recipe or browse the library's cookbook collection to discover a new one. The contest is limited to 10 competitors, so register early.
