A little winter concert Sunday at Yoder Recital Hall

The Bluffton University Concert Band, Bluffton Chamber Winds, and Jazz Ensemble will perform their annual Winter Instrumental Concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, in Yoder Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey D. Boehm, professor of music, will perform several selections. Some selections include: "Circus Days March" by Karl L. King, two movements from "Merry Mount Suite for Band" by Howard Hanson and all movements of W. Francis McBeth's "Of Sailor's and Whales: Five Scenes from Melville."

It's PTO Bakery Bingo on Saturday night!

The Bluffton Elementary PTO will hold a Bakery Bingo in the Middle School cafetorium from 6 to 8 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 20,

The evening includes playing Bingo to win baked goods, selling raffle tickets for a variety of different prize packages and selling concessions. It will be a great family event and is open to the public.

This event was rescheduled from its original date of Feb. 6 when it was snowed out.

Learn all about making maple syrup on March 13

The maple syrup will soon be running.

Coldren-Crates Funeral Homes will host its Maple Festival 2010 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 13, on the Crates family farm and sugar camp on Hancock County Road 24, Arlington, according to Larry Crates.

The event includes a pancake, sausage and maple syrup breakfast at the farm shop. Wagons pulled by horses and tractors will take visitors back to the camp to see how the syrup is made.

Work is underway to resolve the roof and structure problems of the building housing Groves Bears. Yesterday the store was closed due to roof problems. Today (Feb. 19) workers are removing snow from the building roof. In addition, braces are in place on two of the outside walls. To view the building photo taken Feb. 18 click here.
