Game reviews: Nier will be, and is already, a cult-classic

Japanese powerhouse publisher Square Enix saved most of its 2010 marketing thunder for a little title called Final Fantasy XIII (read my fawning review in the Icon's archives!). A little over a month after that game hit western shelves, Square quietly published Nier, and here's where things get funky.

BFR Halloween party Oct. 24; Kid's fun night Nov. 5

Families are invited to BFR for an afternoon of Halloween activities on Sunday, Oct. 24, from 2-4 p.m.The event is free and open to the public.

Activities will include crafts and game stations including "pin the arm on the skeleton," color sheets, cornhole/bean bag toss, pumpkin match game, and obstacle course.

A walk in the park

Bluffton has a new attraction this summer. Motter Metro Park is open with walking trails covering nearly two miles. The trails begin from Columbus Grove Road and head south until they come to Riley Creek. Here's a view from the trail near a row of trees.

Icon welcomes six new advertisers in October

The Bluffton Icon welcomes six new advertisers this month. The Icon now has 27 local businesses advertising their products and services.

"We are grateful for the support of viewers and advertisers," said Fred and Mary Steiner of The Icon.

Those advertisers recently joining The Icon include Jeanne's Kitchen on Vine Street. You'll notice the restaurant's menu listed on the classified-display ad page.

Also new is Jeff Laing's Born Again, LLC, general contractor business.

As Bluffton University's first international graduate student, Hassan Mosoka (Ha-san Mo-SO-ka) brings a whole new world to this American culture, a world where community is so prominent that birthdays are not celebrated individually, a world where mothers call their children by one name and their fathers by another, and a world where favorites are a foreign concept.
