New appliances help Bluffton Hospital rehabilitation patients

Rehabilitation patients at the Bluffton Hospital swing bed unit will get a better chance to practice their household living skills with the arrival of several new appliances. This is expected not only to help their caregivers in discharge planning, but also to help patients themselves gain confidence.

Bluffton Public Library programs and services for December 2023

The Bluffton Public Library monthly update provides seasonal and regular programming updates. In December there are many special activities and a couple days of holiday closings.

Heel pain is the most common foot condition that brings patients to my office. Heel pain is caused by the inflammation of the plantar fascia, multiple muscles, the bursa, nerves and the periosteum under the heel.

Pirate boys basketball opens by bombing Royals

The Bluffton High School boys basketball team romped over the visiting Elmwood Royals 86-46 in the season opener behind a huge second half Friday night, December 1.

The Pirates tipped off their season on time despite their long football playoff run of four games that ended just two weeks ago. 

Junior guard Marek Donaldson drained five of the team’s eight triples and scored a game-high 22 points to pace the victors.

Blake Sommers netted 13 of his 19 points in the first half as the Pirates built a 40-29 lead. The Pirates led only 17-14 after the first period before catching fire.

Donaldson hit three triples and scored 13 of the 25 Bluffton points in the third stanza as they built their lead to 29 points at 65-36.

Bluffton outscored the Royals 25-7 in the third period to blow the game wide open. The hosts won the second half convincingly, 46-17.

Bluffton girls basketball punctured by Wildcat 2nd half rally

The Bluffton girls basketball team led by 11 at the half, but visiting Miller City outscored their hosts by 19 points after the break to pull out a 51-43 non-league win Thursday night, November 30.

PHOTO Another kind of Christmas lights

This weekend, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on December 2 and 3, the Swiss Community Historical Society will host its Christmas Open House at the Schumacher Homestead, 8350 Bixel Rd. The free event features live music, homemade treats and visit from Father Christmas from 4-5:00 p.m. After dark the farmhouse will be lit by firelight and candlelight.
