By Cort Reynolds

MILLER CITY – The Bluffton High School volleyball team lost a five-set thriller to Ottawa-Glandorf in Northwest 2 Div. V district final tournament play on Thursday, October 24, at Miller City to end their strong season in heartbreaking fashion.

The top-seeded Pirates won two of the first three sets to seize the lead, but were not quite able to close O-G out.

The Titan girls rallied to win 23-25, 25-23, 12-25, 25-22, 15-10 and snap Bluffton’s seven-match win streak.

The loss ended the Pirate season with a fine record of 20-4.

Second-seeded Ottawa-Glandorf improved to 18-7 after the comeback to win their first district crown since 2020. The Western Buckeye League champs went 9-0 in league play, but only 9-7 in non-league action. ▶︎

Pirate girls soccer falls to Columbus Grove in district final

By Cort Reynolds

BLUFFTON __ The Bluffton High School girls soccer team lost 4-2 to Northwest Conference rival Columbus Grove on a pair of late goals in Div. V district final action at Steinmetz Field on Thursday, October 24.

Grove senior ace Lauryn Auchmuty netted three second-half goals, including two in the 73rd minute, to break a 2-2 tie and lead the Bulldogs to the victory.

Bluffton beat top-seeded Riverdale 3-0 in the semis Tuesday after losing to the Falcons in the last two district finals. The Pirates hoped to continue their revenge tour Thursday by avenging their late September loss at CG which cost them the league title, but Auchmuty and Grove intervened.

The Pirates end their season with a 12-6-1 record after the defeat. It was the third year in a row they advanced to the district finals but lost at home. ▶︎
