Friends of the Library book sale, Sept. 14-16

The Friends of the Bluffton Library are hosting their used book sale this week:

  •  September 14 from 9:30 a.m to 7:15 p.m.
  • September 15 from 9:30 am to 4:45 p.m.
  • September 16 from 9:30 am to 1 p.m.

You'll find the sale on the lower level of the library. All proceeds go to library programs.

Pirate boys soccer felled by Botkins in tourney final

The visiting Bluffton High School boys soccer team lost 3-0 at Botkins Tuesday evening, September 12, in the championship game of the delayed Elida Classic Kick-off tournament.

Bluffton dropped to 2-5-1 with the defeat.

The Trojans improved to 4-1-1 overall with the win. It marks the first time in three tries that Botkins has won the Elida tourney crown.

Pirate girls soccer dominates Wildcats

The visiting Bluffton High School girls soccer team defeated Northwest Conference rival Delphos Jefferson handily 6-2 Tuesday evening, September 12.

The Pirate girls improved to 5-3-1 and 3-0 in the NWC with the win, to stay tied atop the league standings with Allen East (7-1, 3-0).  

Delphos Jefferson drops to 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the NWC after the loss.

Jefferson drew first blood on a goal by Kyah Kimmett in the 17th minute.

Bluffton was scoreless until the 28th minute when Audrey Snyder tied it 1-1 on an assist by Nora Matthews.

Four minutes later, Pirate Lily Dagani found the back of the net off a Mya McDougle assist to put Bluffton ahead for good.

The score remained 2-1 at halftime before the Pirates blew it open after intermission.

Mornings with Mommy resume on September 18

Mornings with Mommy is a fun and easy way for you to enjoy activities with your infant through kindergarten age children (ages 0-6 years) and meet other moms. Dads, grandmas, grandpas, and nannies are welcome, too!

These educational play-dates will begin on September 18 and 19 and continue on the first and third Monday and Tuesday of each month from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera. A second session on Monday is from 11:00-12:00 a.m.

Native plants education, sales event  

Hancock County Master Gardeners and the Hancock Park District are teaming up to offer native  plant education and sales to benefit area gardeners. The event will be at the Oakwoods Nature  Preserve Discovery Center, Saturday September 16, from 9:00 a.m.-noon. Programs about native plants that benefit wildlife, pollinators and the environmentin are free and open to the public. New exhibits and ”Ask-A-Master Gardener” gardening assistance will be part of the event.

H.W. Enderle served in the U.S. Army

Horace William Louis "H.W." Enderle, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 in Findlay, Ohio.

H.W. was born October 3, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas, to Horace William Louis Sr. and Mary Magdalen (Ahr) Enderle. In 1951, he married Betty Sauter, who has been his companion, partner and friend for more than 70 years.
