League of Women Voters hosts forum on journalism

6:30 p.m. on October 1, Lima Public Library

The League of Women Voters of the Lima Area will hold an informational, hour-long forum, "How Journalism  Works" on Tuesday, October 1.

Dr. Shane Tilton, an  Associate Professor of Writing and Multimedia Studies at Ohio Northern University, will discuss why journalism is still important, especially when we get information from fragmented sources, and how journalism works as a cornerstone for society.

BLUFFTON – The undefeated Bluffton High School football team dominated visiting Lima Central Catholic 35-0 in a Northwest Conference battle on a wet and windy Homecoming night at Harmon Field Friday, September 27.

Elbert Dubenion Drive unveiling ceremony Oct. 4

12:00 noon, Friday October 4 on Bentley Rd. near Yoder Recital Hall

The Village of Bluffton will recognize Bluffton University’s most famous athlete in a ceremony at noon, Friday, Oct. 4, with the unveiling of Elbert Dubenion Drive.

The Drive covers a section of Bentley Road in front of Bluffton University’s Salzman football stadium from the Yoder Recital Hall parking lot to the intersection of Bentley and Elm Street. The ceremony will take place near the recital hall portion of the Drive.

Et Cetera Inc. celebrates 50th anniversary with comforter-knotting event 

Saturday, October 19, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Arthur Lugibihl Center, Pandora

As part of a year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Bluffton-based Et Cetera Inc., all are invited to join in a “comforter bash” with the aim of creating 50 comforters for distribution by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) relief programs.

Men, women and children are invited to “come when you can, stay as long as you want.” Joyce Schumacher, chairperson of the Celebration Steering Committee, told the Icon, “If you can tie a knot, you can knot a comforter!”

Medicare Open Enrollment virtual town hall on Oct. 1

Ohio Department of Insurance Director Judith L. French and Medicare experts from the department’s Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) are hosting a free, virtual town hall on Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. to help Ohioans prepare for the upcoming Medicare open enrollment period and officially launch OSHIIP's annual statewide Medicare Checkup events.
