Bluffton merchants kick off the holiday shopping season November 3-4

Many Bluffton merchants will be kicking off the holiday season this weekend, Nov 3-4th. Drop by to enjoy seasonal gift and decor items as well as sales, refreshments and more.

Also this weekend, Shirley’s Gourmet Popcorn will be celebrating their customer appreciation day with double points on purchases and a free gift with purchase.

2023 voters select best Bluffton scarecrows

With 555 votes cast, the winners of the 2023 Bluffto Area Chamber of Commerce scarecrow decorating contest are 1st place) SumiRiko, entry located at Cherry and Main). 2nd place) Stoney's Barber Shop, 125 N. Main. 3rd place) Sam Diller Law offices, 101 N. Main. Ribbons are displayed on the three winners and SumiRiko will received a traveling trophy. The top two scarecrows garnered over 100 votes each.

October prize drawing for Discovery Days

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the following winning numbers from the October 2023 Discovery Days prize drawing:

First Prize - $100 Bluffton Bucks - 830073
Second Prize - $50 Bluffton Bucks - 624623
Third Place - $25 Bluffton Bucks - 119524

Prizes can be picked up at the Bluffton Public Library.  Prizes must be picked up before November 24, 2023.

Pirate Yarnell named all-district volleyball player

Bluffton junior setter Grace Yarnell was voted second team All-District 8 for Divisions I-II-III in voting recently conducted by the area volleyball coaches.

Yarnell led the Pirate girls in assists (630) and aces (55), and was second on the team in digs with 224. The 5-7 junior also knocked down 65 kills and came up with 17 blocks.

The versatile Yarnell was also voted first team All-Northwest Conference. She helped lead Bluffton to an 18-5 overall record and to third place in the nine-team NWC standings at 6-2.

ONU HealthWise mobile clinic renews partnership with Mercy Health-St. Rita’s

Clinic provides health screenings, occasionally addresses emergencies

A five-year partnership extension has been made between Ohio Northern University’s HealthWise Mobile Health Clinic and Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center. The value of that collaboration was illustrated by a recent health emergency at a Lima, Ohio event, where the mobile clinic was staffed by ONU pharmacy students and faculty, as well as by physicians in St. Rita’s Internal Medicine residency program.

According to Raabe College of Pharmacy, the mobile health clinic was at a block party in Lima to offer free health screenings when a fourth-year pharmacy student detected high blood pressure in a woman who was 38 weeks pregnant. The team feared the cause was pre-eclampsia, a potentially fatal prenatal complication. (Continues.)

League of Women Voters launch membership drive

Members of the League of Women Voters of the Lima Area are launching their annual membership drive with an informal reception at The Shawnee Station, 2228 Shawnee Road on Monday, November 6 at 6:30 p.m.

Members are encouraged to attend to participate in dialogue on ways to encourage voter registration, provide educational programs and promote participation in the democratic process.
