Watch the BHS band preview on Friday

It's an all-new band season coming your way soon at Harmon Field most Friday nights this fall.The Bluffton High School band is in summer band camp rehearsals this week.

According to Dave Sycks, band director, the band will perform an informal marching band show for parents and the public on the Harmon Field practice field at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20.

"We will be performing our first show, hopefully some of our second show and pre-game, said Sycks.At 6:30 p.m. the band will depart for the Allen County Fair band show.

Oscar Velasquez performs in Gilboa Aug. 21

Oscar Velasquez of Bluffton will perform at the Hillside Winery, Gilboa, on Saturday, Aug. 21. The afternoon includes art, music, food and wine tasting. Velasquez will perform from 3 to 4 p.m. The actual event will take place from 1 to 6 p.m. Food is catered by Donna and Merle Smith. Several other area arts will perform during the event.

Pandora story time for youth on Wednesdays

The Putnam County District Library will have story time in Pandora weekly from Aug. 30 to Nov. 18.

Pandora's story time is held Wednesdays at 10 a.m. The event introduces young children to books and reading.

Seth Swary receives Basinger Scholarship

Seth Swary, son of Kein and Wendy Swary of Pandora, is the recipient of the Alvin F. and Mary C. Basinger Scholarship for 2010. The annual $500 scholarship goes to a Pandora-Gilboa High School senior.

The recipient is selected on the basis of scholarship merit, leadership, school and community service and the promise of success in a chosen field.

Senior piano recital Aug. 26 in Yoder Recital Hall

Rebekah Ricker, a pianist from Spencerville, will perform her Bluffton University senior recital at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, in Yoder Recital Hall on the Bluffton campus. The recital is free and open to the public.

A little lawn music

Kelsey Dyck stretches out and enjoys the music and ice cream at Sunday night's Music on the Lawn at the Mennonite Memorial Home. With him are his parents Marie and Rodney Dyck. The annual event brings hundreds of people - MMH residents, staff, family and Bluffton residents to the Home for some music, ice cream and conversation.
