Ghosts of the past

As is true for many outdoor sports enthusiasts, the snow, ice and chill of Ohio's winter has forced me indoors for my morning runs and walks. Running round and round on the local rec track isn't my preferred way to get in my miles, but I do love running in shorts and a tee shirt. To vary the scenery, I sometimes do my walk days at the elementary school where the halls are long and turns are less frequent than the track.

BLUFFTON'S LOW-SALT DIET

New York City's Department of Health issued new guidelines to curb salt in resident's diets today. Meanwhile, in Bluffton, Ohio, the village issued guidelines to keep salt off its new Main Street sidewalks. The low-salt diet is due to the new sidewalks placed downtown this summer. Salt and other ice melting chemicals may harm the sidewalks during their first winter. In the meantime, walkers take care on icy days and nights.

The streetscape program was completed at a cost of $230,244 and $600,000 of the town hall debt was retired. Those figures were revealed at the Jan. 11 council meeting - the first meeting of 2010.
