Senior center offers crochet class in June

The Bluffton Senior Center will offer a Beginner Crochet Class in June. The class will offer a brief history of crocheting, learn five basic stitches and how to read a pattern.

The class will be Tuesday, June 15 and June 22 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The cost is $5 for Senior Center members, $7 for non-members and children under the age of 14 are free with a paying adult.

Crochet hooks and yarn will be provided at the first class. Reservations can be made by calling 419-358-8971 or stop by the Bluffton Senior Center during regular business hours.

Perfect attendance pays off at Apollo

Apollo Career Center will award a new car to one lucky student with perfect attendance., Monday, May 24, at 9:40 a.m., in the Apollo Commons. A reverse drawing of sorts, at the end two students will each be handed a set of keys. One set will start the car, and the runner-up receives a brand new Gateway computer.

Many businesses donated a variety of prizes to this year's perfect attendees and as each student's name is pulled from the basket that student will be awarded gas cards, pizzas, subs, etc. Forty-seven students are entered in this year's contest

BFR hosts senior health-fitness events May 26

Bluffton Family Recreation (BFR) will hold a special senior health and fitness day Wednesday, May 26, according to Carole Enneking, director.

"All events are free and open to seniors age 55 and older," she said. Events take place at four locations:

~Ac^a'not^Ac Maple Crest
~Ac^a'not^Ac Richland Manor
~Ac^a'not^Ac BFR

At the Senior Citizens Center will be Wii bowling challenge from 10 a.m. to noon; miniature golf putting green from 9 to 11 a.m.; and exercise by Joy at 1:30 p.m.

Get ready for a crafty Saturday

Here's a summary of what's where at Saturday's arts and crafts show. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Bluffton High School show choir and jazz band will perform near the farmer's market. The student art show will be on the Presbyterian Church lawn. (Map by Alison King)

Area students among university graduates

Bluffton University students, alumni and friends recently gathered for the institution's annual May Day and commencement festivities, May 8 and 9. The institution's 110th commencement ceremony, held on May 9, recognized 270 graduates. This year's commencement speaker was Elaine Moyer, a Bluffton alumna and associate director of the Mennonite Education Agency. She presented "Engage Complexity - Live Simply."

Graduates from the local area include:

Earning master's degrees in education: Kelly Ren'e Prichard, Bluffton, Ohio; Jami L. Slager, Bluffton, Ohio.
