Recognition dinner April 18 in Bluffton town hall

Barbara Plaugher, involved in a lifetime of helping local organizations, is the Bluffton Lions Club 2016 Citizen of the Year.

Details about her recognition program are at the end of this story.

Among her volunteering includes organizing 25 Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) missions to underdeveloped nations, and participating in 20 of those missions.  She is the VOSH-Ohio secretary, newspaper editor and board member.

Here's your invitation to see the world through his eyes on Friday

You may have seen Jim Bemiller at Common Grounds, usually drinking coffee with an interesting crowd.

But, he’s never seen you. He is blind. Jim invites Icon viewers to his world on Friday evening.

His invitation is to “Eye Can!” It’s from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 7, in the Rhodes State College, Lima, Science Building, Room 100.

The evening is a collaboration of three groups. One is the Starlight Club, Lima, a support group of visually impaired and blind persons sponsored by the Lions Club.

Other sponsors are Rhodes State College and the Toledo Sight Center.

The Friends of the Bluffton Public Library hold their annual spring tea at 5:45 p.m., Thursday, April 27, in the library, 145 S. Main St.

Tickets are $12 and must be purchased in advance at the library. The program will be put on by members of the Swiss Historical Society.

On Apr. 6 at 6 p.m., join us in celebrating National Poetry Month with a “VoxPop” Poetry Reading. Guests may take turns reading one or more of their own original poems.  Sign-in to do so begins at 6 p.m. while the reading begins at 6:30 p.m. There will be popcorn and soda pop for participants and audience members to enjoy.

Wednesday Addams gets married and it's meet the parents time

The Addams Family musical comes to the middle school stage later this month in a show featuring every father's nightmare.

Performances are 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, April 21 and 22, and at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 23. Kara Zink directs the performances. Tickets are on sale in the middle school office during school hours. Reserved seated at $10 and general admission tickets are $5.
