Visit the zoo and head into space - plus lots more in July at the library

There’s still time to participate in the Bluffton Public Librtary summer program and reading challenge this year: “Our Library, Our Community: Healthy Together.”

This year’s theme has an emphasis on supporting a healthy body, mind and spirit through library programs, materials, and services for all ages.

To participate in the Summer Reading Challenge, simply register in person at the library.

Darryl Nester named NCAA Division III Far Fellow

Bluffton University Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. Darryl Nester has been selected as a 2016 NCAA Division III FAR Fellow and will attend the FAR Fellows Institute.

Nester has been a mathematics professor at Bluffton for the past 24 years and the school’s Faculty Athletic Representative for the past four years.

The FAR Fellows Institute was launched in 2010 and aims to increase the effectiveness of Division III FARs at campus, conference and national levels.

Meet the Bluffton swim team

Here's Bluffton's swim team - the Sardines. They will host and compete in this weekend's Western Ohio Aquatic League swim meet championships on Friday and Saturday at the Bluffton pool. Click here for a story about the league event that will bring over 2,500 persons to Bluffton.

1950s-era Bluffton merchant basketball squad

You'll recognize several athletes in this team photo. It's a Bluffton merchant's team that could have been sponsored by Triplett or Bluffton Stone Quarry taken in the mid-1950s.

Didn't see James Bond or Danny Ocean, but we left the casino with $$ in our pocket

The Icon editor recently took a mini-vacation, visiting his daughter in Cincinnati. Among exploits was a visit to Jack’s Casino. This is an account of that adventure.

Knowing nothing about cards and less about other games of chance, my daughter, Anne, and I decided to have some fun. We made a date with Jack’s Casino.

It’s pretty simple. Pick a slot machine. Drop in coins. Pull lever. Watch money pour out. So we thought.
