On Friday afternoon, June 15th of this year the Bluffton Lions Club put on its annual car show the 45th Festival of Wheels and Cruise-in. We strive to make it a better show each year. It takes a lot of volunteers to make it a success.
Bluffton American Legion Post 382 held a cookout and installation ceremony of post officers at the Buckeye Park Shelteron June 18.
Forty persons attended, according to Dennis Morrison, PR officer.
Following the picnic the new officers were sworn in by 2nd District Commander Tom Faller from Post 387, Minster.
Each year Maple Crest residents participate in an international party. On July 2, 2012, they celebrated the legal holiday of "Canada Day," since the July 1 anniversary date of the 1867 enactment of the British North America Act fell on Sunday.
That Act united three British colonies into a single country (within the British Empire) - Canada.
Maple Crest resident Gladys Simmons was raised in Canada and found herself drawn to the Royal Family, partly because Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, was born the same year as Gladys.
We didn't count the rings, but we are betting this tree is a centurian. The Buckeye fell during the June 29 severe wind storm. Accompaying this story is a video, which involves a walk around the tree.
Also accompanying this story is a photo taken Oct. 31, 1900, at the dedication of College Hall. there are several trees in the photo. This one would have been small. We can't claim to see it in this photo, but perhaps other Icon viewers see it.

On June 28, 2012, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled, in a landmark decision, that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), including the provision that most Americans carry health insurance or pay a penalty, is constitutional.
As of 5 p.m. July 4, AEP Ohio, through our rebuilding efforts, has restored power to approximately 74 percent of the 660,000 customers affected by the catastrophic storm that moved through the state June 29 and the additional 20,000 who lost power in the July 1 evening
storm.
Approximately 171,000 AEP Ohio customers remain without power across our service territory this afternoon.
