A science project with a familiar tune
This science experiment has a familiar tune.
It involves musical instruments...drums, reeds, brass, and PCV pipes.
Bluffton eighth grade science students in Dave Bracy's classes created musical instruments using the scientific method this month. Upon finishing their opuses, students, individually or in teams of two, presented their instruments and shared information about them with their classmates.
"Students designed, built and then performed on their instrument in class," said Bracy.
For a closer look, watch the video of Tyler King and Austin Maroscher, who created the "drumbone."
Each student presentation included a historical snapshot of the instrument, a historic timeline showing the development of the instrument, drawings of the instrument, testing and modifications involved in the student creation of the instrument, sound variable information and mechanics involved.
