Wetherill art on display at MMH

As part of the on-going art gallery at the Mennonite Memorial Home, local artists Lois and Gary Wetherill have a variety of their work on display.

On the third floor at MMH, Lois has a sampling of her 'Penny Rugs' that she has created. Based on both traditional and contemporary designs, Lois' 'Penny Rugs' are completely hand-sewn using wool and wool felt.

Lois also has pieces using the 'flower-pounding' technique. After placing flowers on fabric Lois pounds them to extract the dyes and juices of the plants. The designs are then enhanced with embroidery or permanent ink.

Gary has displayed several Native American 'bustles' that are used in traditional celebrations. The 'bustles' are made of feathers, ribbons and beads.
