Swiss Community Historical Society spring meeting March 24
Step back in time on Sunday, March 24, and join the Swiss Community Historical Society in the Maple Crest Patio Room for an afternoon with “An Early Healer.”
At the annual Spring meeting, the Swiss Historical Society will host Rita Thalen, formerly of the Johnny Appleseed Park District, who will present a first person (in character) portrayal of an early healer in the Bluffton/Pandora area.
She will talk about herbs, remedies, and practices that were used to keep the settlers healthy and cure those who were not. Rita will dress in period clothes and bring numerous props and display items to illustrate her portrayal.
The program will begin at 2 p.m. with a social time and displays of traditional Society artifacts as well as new acquisitions of the last year. Ms. Thalen’s 45-minute presentation, appropriate for all ages, will begin at 2:30 p.m. with time for questions following. Refreshments will be served and a free will offering will be taken to help cover expenses.
The Swiss Community Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the memory and history of early Swiss settlers to the Bluffton/Pandora region.
