BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team scored two first half goals to secure its first win of the season over Marietta College on a chilly Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014. The day consisted of two exciting soccer matches that left all of Bluffton's students, staff and alumni with big smiles that can only come from tense and ultimately victorious sporting events. Bluffton improved to 1-3, while Marietta slipped to 0-6 on the season.
The women took the lead just 39 seconds into the contest and kept it the rest of the afternoon, with scoring shots from Terrill Webb (Kenton) and Jo Bondra (Highland Heights/Mayfield), both assisted by Kristen Tropf (Findlay/Van Buren).
After allowing an early second half goal, the Beavers buckled down and prevented any further scoring from Marietta over the final 42 minutes of the contest. Marietta finished with a slim 14-12 edge in total shots, but Bluffton put one more on frame (8-7).
Freshman keeper Katie Neeley (Huber Heights/Wayne) collected six saves, while Tropf, Webb and freshman Brittany Huff (Union/Northmont) paced the offense with three shots each.
The Beavers will look to carry their momentum with them to Mount Union on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Alliance. The contest with the Purple Raiders is slated for 5 p.m.
