GOBA chairpersons named; one opening remains; GOBA director speaks at April 10 chamber breakfast
Lots of activity is taking place surround the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure (GOBA), which is headed to Bluffton on Sunday, June 21.
Several volunteer chairpersons are now working on specific assignments for the day. Those chairpersons are:
• Town coordinator – Liz Harner
• Publicity – Fred Steiner
• Entertainment – Derek Dukes
• Emergency – Jim Bish
• Information booth – SHANNON Service Club and United Way
• Transportation (shuttle buses) – Doug Luginbill
• Food – Dennis Morrison
• Housing – Mitch Kingsley
There is still a need for a volunteer chair of campground (at Bluffton University) and logistics. Persons or organizations interested in more information should contact Liz Harner.
Any group or individual interested in volunteering on any of the above committees may contact the committee chairperson.
GOBA director April 10 chamber speaker
Bill Gordon, GOBA director, is becoming a familiar person in Bluffton this spring. He recently spoke to representatives of Bluffton restaurants and groups interested in selling food during GOBA’s visit.
Gordon is the featured speaker of the Friday, April 10, Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast. The 7 a.m. breakfast is in the third floor of the town hall. Gordon will give a broad outline of how GOBA works and what its impact will have on Bluffton.
Persons interested in attending the breakfast should rsvp to [email protected].
More GOBA details in attachment at bottom of story.
Bluffton is on the 27th annual GOBA bicycle tour in June. Up to 2,500 persons – mostly on bicycles – will arrive in Bluffton from Van Wert on the morning of Sunday, June 21.
That means that on that weekend Bluffton will be the bicycle capital of Ohio.
While in Bluffton bikers will camp at Bluffton University. On Monday morning, June 22, they will depart for Defiance.
Their overnight visit will create a huge immediate economic impact to the community. They will need to eat, be entertained and check out the sites of the community.
Perhaps more importantly, if what they find in Bluffton interests them, many of them will make a return visit if they like what they find here.
There are many opportunities for service organizations, churches, non-profit groups and businesses to become involved in GOBA’s Bluffton experience.
The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, working with Liz Harner of CG Pro Bikes, coordinates GOBA’s activities.
