Lu Lu's Diner owner: "We couldn't have asked for a better opening day"

“How exciting is this? Everyone is amazing. We couldn’t have asked for a better opening day. We were busy all day.”

That’s how Justin Musil of Bluffton’s newest business, Lu Lu’s Diner, talked about the diner’s opening day on July 27.

The diner, at 114 E. College Ave., formerly housed Ideal Images. An earlier announcement of its arrival was reason for great conversation and anticipation in Bluffton.

Tom and Sheena Dotson, of Tommy Tires, own the building and are leasing it to Justin and Amy Musil of Elida.

The menu includes eight different omelets, nine burgers, nine waffles, pancakes and French toasts, 10 soups and salads, offerings for children, plus 10 items titled “Lu Lu’s favorites.” Those include corned beef hash, eggs Benedict, sausage biscuits and gravy, steak and eggs and similar items. There are also eight sandwiches ranging from Reuben’s to grilled BLT with cheese all the way to Lu Lu’s fish sandwich.

The Bluffton diner is the fourth Lu Lu’s. The first three are in Lima on Bellefontaine Avenue, Spencerville Road and Lu Lu’s Café and Bake shop on North Main.

Hours of all diners are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sundays. The Bluffton diner’s phone number is 419-369-5858 (LULU).

As Justin tells the Icon, “We are all about family. There’s no plans to extend our hours after 2 p.m.”

And who is Lu Lu?

Here’s a portion of that explanation, taken from the diner’s menu: “The diner was created in honor of my grandmother, Linda Louise Miller, better known as Grandma Lu Lu. She was a passionate and strong woman. She taught me to work hard, have faith and give back to the community. This diner would not be possible without the love and support of our family and friends.”

Justin and Amy opened Lu Lu's on July 27. Amy gave birth to the couple's fourth child, their fourth son, Abel Lawrence, on July 24. Their other sons are Austin, Ashton and Aiden.
