Janet Sweigart was a retired ER nurse at Bluffton Hospital
Janet Kay (Binkley) Sweigart, 73, died on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, in her sleep.
She was born on Aug. 24, 1942, in Lima, Ohio, to Charles “Big Ed” and Mildred (Garrison) Binkley. Both parents have preceded her in death. She married John A. “Jack” Sweigart, Jr. on Sept. 1, 1963. Her husband preceded her in death in 2009.
Janet retired from Bluffton Hospital as an ER nurse. She graduated from Lima Memorial School of nursing and had worked on the 1st intensive care unit at Lima Memorial Hospital. She had also worked as an oncology nurse for Dr. Sharon Cole.
Janet along with her husband were Certified Tree Farmers. In 2005 they were Ohio Outstanding Tree Farmer of the year and a National Regional Tree Farmer in 2006. She has held numerous positions in the Ohio Tree Farm Associations, including president and had helped start the several Ohio Local Forest Association including the Northwest and West Central Ohio Chapters.
She also belonged to the Hardin County Herb Society, and was a former Board of Director of the West Central Land Conservancy.
Janet was a member of the Maysville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son, Joseph A. (Susan) Sweigart of LaFayette; a daughter, Julie A. Jones of Botkins; seven grandchildren: Jackson Sweigart, Samantha Sweigart, Klarc Sweigart, Peggy Sweigart, Kaya Sweigart, Brandon Jones and Selby Jones; a great grandson, Brandon “Bear” Mathias; two brothers: James (Kelly) Binkley and Tom (Jackie) Binkley; two sisters: Ruth Igney and Barb (Gary) Faunce; four brothers-in-law: Tom (Sharon) Sweigart, Gary (Mary) Sweigart, Jim (Ennice) Sweigart and Mark Sweigart; and a sister-in-law, Carol (Mark) Kimmet.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Bowe Seever Sweigart.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
