Volleyball sweeps Earlham in HCAC opener

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Bluffton University volleyball team was on the road for their opening Heartland Conference contest with Earlham College on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The Beavers dominated the match, winning 25-11, 25-15 and 25-19 while improving to 12-7 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC. Earlham slipped to 4-15 and 0-1 in the conference.
LAUREN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) had a dominating performance, pounding 11 kills with no errors on a paltry 19 swings for a ridiculous .579 hitting percentage! BETHANY MARTINI (Pickerington/North) finished the night with nine kills, while MACKENZIE MCFARLIN (Ashland) and BECCA TOURNEY (Columbia City, Ind.) both chipped in five counters. Freshman Carley Lester (Chesapeake) added four spikes and a .333 hitting percentage in the victory.
Juniors SYDNEY MOHLER (Lima/Central Catholic) and Becca Tourney led the defense with 14 and 11 digs, respectively. Directing the offense was sophomore setter ERIN WEISGARBER (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) who dished out 31 assists and picked up nine digs on the night. Sisters Erin and Lauren combined for 14 kills with no errors on 28 total attacks for a blistering .500 Weisgarber hitting percentage!
Bluffton will jump right back into action on Friday, Sept. 30, when the Beavers travel to take on Denison in a non-conference matchup. First serve is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Granville.
