Trick-or-treat night and an assortment of items
In addition to annexation, Bluffton council dealt with other issues on Aug. 23. Trick-or-treat night was set from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28. Jamie Mehaffie, village administrator, told council that he has already had inquiries on the date.
The Bluffton Tree Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 26. On the agenda is the 2010 Western Lake Erie Basin Emerald Ash Borer Grant, which the village has received. In addition, the commission will discuss fall 2010 tree planting projects.
Mehaffie and Nancy Kindle, village fiscal officer, attended the Allen County budget hearing on Aug. 19.
Mehaffie said, "We were primarily interested in learning what they knew regarding any upcoming changes to the Local Government Fund...nobody has any idea what the state may do with the fund in the future."
The village administrator told council that he talked with the owner of the closed car wash located at 128 E. Elm St. The owner was advised that the present condition of the property is unacceptable and must be corrected.
"He (the owner) explained to me the reason that their approved project for the property has not moved forward and assured me that he will clean up the property," said Mehaffie.
The Spring Street bridge project is moving ahead. The abutment structures are poured. The truss will be delivered later this week. The bridge is scheduled to reopen by Nov. 1, and the work is ahead of schedule.
