Barberettes starting 6th year

Bluffton's Barberettes, a women's chorus started in 2005 by Jayne McGarrity and Janette Reineke, will begin fall rehearsals Sunday, Sept. 26.

The group is planning a sesquicentennial program of "Popular Songs from the Last 15 Decades." The program will be offered to nursing homes and assisted living facilities in the winter/spring season.

The group will also perform at other functions, including "The Early Settlers Reunion Pot Luck Lunch" a sesquicentennial celebration at the Ebenezer Church June 26, 2011.

Rehearsals for the Barberettes will be Sunday evenings from 7-8 p.m. in the basement choir room of the First Mennonite Church, 101 S. Jackson St. There will be a total of nine practices from Sept. 26 through Nov. 21, with possible brush-up rehearsals in January.

New singers are welcome to join. The women sing in three- and four-part harmony. Director McGarrity says that the only requirement is a love of singing and, "You've gotta have heart."

Those interested may call Jayne (369-4216) or Janette (358-0527).
